August 20, 2026: To Encourage Whistleblowers to Come Forward, LAPD Officer’s Illegal Recording Charges Reduced to Misdemeanors

LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman has announced that, to encourage whistleblowers to come forward, charges filed against a Los Angeles police officer accused of illegally recording confidential conversations of his colleagues without their knowledge are being reduced to misdemeanors.

LOS ANGELES — A 57-year-old Los Angeles man, who was previously convicted in 2005 of murder and released from prison in 2022, has now been charged with three counts of murder in connection with a triple homicide involving the shooting deaths of three men at a Hollywood apartment last month.

LOS ANGELES – A 36-year-old man was found guilty today for murder in connection with the 2018 fatal shooting of a Trader Joe’s manager during a shootout with police where he held shoppers hostage inside the store for more than three hours.

August 14, 2026: Convicted Pop Smoke Killer Sentenced to Jail for Fentanyl Possession While in Juvenile Hall

SAN FERNANDO, Calif. — Deijae Devon Jester, convicted as a juvenile in the 2020 murder of rapper and songwriter Bashar Barakah Jackson, known professionally as Pop Smoke, was sentenced to four years in County Jail for distributing fentanyl while serving time in a Los Angeles County juvenile detention facility.

LOS ANGELES — A man who allegedly attempted to buy sex from a 14-year-old girl was held to answer on conspiracy charges on July 30, the same day the Office charged convicted human sex trafficker Jihad Jones with murdering a man on the Figueroa Corridor in an unsolved 2021 case. These cases reflect the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office’s aggressive prosecutions of both the supply and demand side of the multibillion-dollar commercial sex exploitation market.
