A 32-year-old man pleaded no contest today to assaulting a man at a bar restroom last Labor Day, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Giselle Chang said David Delgado of Winnetka entered the plea to one felony count of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury in case YA100945.

Sentencing for Delgado is scheduled on May 28 in Department 8 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Torrance Branch. He faces four years in state prison as a result of the plea.

On Sept. 2, 2019, Delgado allegedly approached a man in a restroom at a Hermosa Beach bar and asked him what was written on the hat he was wearing. The victim was wearing a red hat that read: “Make America Great Again,” with Russian lettering, the prosecutor said.

When the victim responded, the defendant became angry and assaulted the man resulting in serious injuries, the prosecutor added.

The case was investigated by the Hermosa Beach Police Department.
