September 27, 2019: Don’t Be Fooled by Caller ID Spoofing Scam

Caller ID Spoofing Scam

Don’t believe everything you read, even on your phone’s caller ID.

In the Caller ID Spoofing Scam, criminals make automated phone calls appear to be from local numbers, known companies and legitimate government agencies.

The scammers then get their victims to reveal confidential personal information, which can lead to identity and financial theft.

TIPS:

  • Don’t trust caller ID – it may be a spoofed phone number.
  • Hang up and don’t press any numbers if you get a robocall.
  • Check call-blocking options on your phone and from your service provider.
