A man was sentenced today to 26 years to life in state prison for fatally stabbing another man outside of an apartment complex two years ago, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Jeffery Ardonal Johnson (dob 9/3/56) of Bellflower was convicted by a jury in June 2019 of one count of first-degree murder in case VA146860.

The jury also found true the special allegation that the defendant personally used a deadly and dangerous weapon, a knife, during the commission of the crime.

On the evening of Jan. 27, 2018, the defendant and 24-year-old victim Anthony Maurice Elston reportedly got into a physical altercation outside of the apartment complex.

During the fight, Johnson pulled out a knife and fatally stabbed Elston in the torso, prosecutors said.

Johnson then left the scene but came back to turn himself into law enforcement.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
