A driver was charged today with vehicular manslaughter for killing a bicyclist over the weekend in the Rampart district, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Cruz Tzoc (5/30/93) was charged in case BA446088 with one count of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. He is expected to be arraigned today in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

On April 23, Tzoc is accused of sideswiping a car and driving about 60 mph in a neighborhood. He then allegedly hit a parked car and went through an intersection backwards when he struck 26-year-old Tomas Brewer and dragged him about 25 feet.

Tzoc’s truck hit a tree and he was arrested at the scene.

Prosecutors are recommending bail be set at $130,000. If convicted as charged, he faces up to 10 years in state prison.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.
