If convicted as charged, Ivanna Ortiz faces life in prison

LOS ANGELES – A 35-year-old woman was charged today for trying to kill musician Rihanna after she fired a semiautomatic rifle at the singer’s Beverly Crest home over the weekend. No one was injured.

“Opening fire in any populated neighborhood is extremely dangerous, puts lives at risk and will be fully prosecuted,” Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman said. “Thankfully, no one was injured in this shooting, but this careless violence will not be tolerated in our community. Such shooters will find their next destination to be our jails and prisons.”

Ivanna Lisette Ortiz (dob 6/20/90) of Orlando, Florida, was charged in case 26CJCF01519 with one count of attempted murder, 10 felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm and three felony counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper. Her arraignment was continued to March 25 in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. Bail has been set to $1.875 million.

On March 8, at about 1:20 p.m., Ortiz is accused of driving up to the front of a home belonging to Rihanna in the 9500 block of Heather Road and firing a semiautomatic weapon multiple times at the house. There were people on the musician’s property as well as an adjacent house, but no one was struck by gunfire.

Ortiz fled the scene but was arrested a short time later in Sherman Oaks.

If convicted as charged, Ortiz faces up to life in state prison.

The case is being prosecuted by Alexander Bott of the Major Crimes Division and remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division.

The charges filed in this case are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
