July 15, 2020: Man Pleads to Killing Passenger in Valley Village Crash

A 27-year-old man has entered a no contest plea for killing the passenger in his McLaren sports car after crashing into a tree in Valley Village, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.

Deputy District Attorney Yasmin Fardghassemi said Daniel Joseph Silva of North Hollywood entered the plea yesterday to one felony count of gross vehicular manslaughter.

Sentencing for case LA092642 is scheduled on August 13 in Department F of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Van Nuys Branch. The defendant faces up to four years in state prison.

Silva was driving when he crashed his car, killing Corey James Labarrie, 25, on May 10, the prosecutor said.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department, Valley Traffic Station.
