A man and a woman have been charged with the gang murder of a man at Begonias Lane Park in Santa Clarita last month, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.

Nicholas Colletta (dob 6/5/97) of Saugus and Jacqueline Arreola (dob 12/10/92) of Newhall both face one count of murder with the allegation that the crime was committed for the benefit of a criminal street gang.

Additionally, Colletta faces one count each of possession of a firearm by a felon with three priors, unlawful possession of ammunition and carrying a loaded firearm as an active participant in a street gang. Arreola also faces one count of accessory after the fact, knowledge of crime.

The criminal complaint alleges Colletta was convicted in 2016 of carrying an unregistered loaded handgun, possession of a billy or blackjack and carrying a dirk or dagger. The defendant also is alleged to have personally and intentionally discharged a handgun and caused great bodily injury.

Arraignment for both defendants is scheduled today in Department S of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, San Fernando Branch. Case PA089346 was filed for warrant yesterday.

On July 11, Ivan Solis, 25, was shot to death at the park after Colletta allegedly issued a gang challenge, prosecutors said. Following the shooting the defendants are alleged to have fled the scene using a ridesharing service, prosecutors added.

Both defendants face 50 years to life in state prison if convicted as charged.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Santa Clarita Station.
