Deputy District Attorney Theodore Swanson said Giovanni Grey McKinnis, 19 (dob 7/22/94), pleaded not guilty at the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Antelope Valley Branch. His next court date is scheduled for Jan. 17 in Department A-2.

He is charged in case MA061750 with two counts of corporal injury to child’s parent and one count each of kidnapping, false imprisonment by violence, assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury, and criminal threats. McKinnis also faces a misdemeanor count of disobeying domestic relations court order.

The complaint further alleges that the defendant personally used a deadly and dangerous weapon, a knife, and that McKinnis personally inflicted great bodily injury upon the 20-year-old victim under circumstances involving domestic violence.

The prosecutor said McKinnis kidnapped and falsely imprisoned the victim from Dec. 27, 2013, to Jan. 4. During that nine day period, the victim was threatened, beaten and punched by McKinnis, resulting in her jaw being broken, the prosecutor added.

Bail for the defendant is recommended at $450,000. If convicted as charged, he faces a maximum sentence of 16 years in state prison.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department.
