A 34-year-old man has entered a no contest plea for fatally beating his wife in their Bell Gardens home, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Chad Gillette said Michael Robles pleaded no contest yesterday to one count of second-degree murder in case VA145206.

Sentencing is scheduled on Nov. 7 in Department T of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Norwalk Branch. Robles faces 15 years to life in state prison.

On July 5, 2017, Azelea Villareal, 28, was struck multiple times by the defendant, at times while she was unconscious, the prosecutor said. Their 4-year-old child was present during the attack.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
