Hochman announced that six people were charged today as part of a multi-agency investigation dubbed “Operation Sugar Diamond” that targeted an illegal cannabis extraction business where four people were killed in a fiery explosion at a warehouse in Irwindale in 2023 and another man died at a South El Monte facility last year.

July 31, 2025: Long Beach Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Murder of Teen, Attempted Murder of Four Others

LONG BEACH, CA – A 34-year-old man was sentenced today to 358 years to life, essentially life in prison, for the murder of 17-year-old Briana Soto, a high school senior who was fatally shot just steps from her Long Beach home in March 2024. He was also sentenced for the attempted murder of four teenagers in a separate shooting weeks later.
