Two women and a man have been charged with the murder of a man whose burnt body was found in Joshua Tree two weeks ago, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

John Schiefer (dob 3/18/81) of Nipomo, Shavonne Webster (dob 4/23/79) of Winchester, Ind., and Haena Kealia Worthing (dob 3/20/75) of Marina Del Rey are all charged with one count of murder.

Deputy District Attorney Keri Modder said the criminal complaint includes an allegation that Schiefer and Webster used a hammer as a deadly and dangerous weapon.

Worthing is scheduled to be arraigned today in Department W30 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Airport Branch.

Schiefer and Webster are scheduled to be arraigned on Sept. 9. Case SA101219 was filed for warrant on Aug. 23.

William Webb, 72, was allegedly murdered by the three defendants on Aug. 15, the prosecutor said. The victim’s burned body was found the next day in the dry lake bed near Sunway Road and Rosehedge Avenue in the unincorporated area near the Joshua Tree National Park.

If convicted as charged, Schiefer and Webster face a possible maximum sentence of 26 years to life in state prison and Worthing faces a 25-years-to-life sentence.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department, West Bureau Homicide.
