A homeless man was charged today with attacking an 11-year-old boy outside a downtown Los Angeles concert hall last week, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Raul Villalba Ocampo (dob 11/19/82) was charged in case BA442175 with one count each of assault with a deadly weapon and child abuse. The criminal complaint also alleges Ocampo used keys as a deadly and dangerous weapon during the commission of the crime.

Ocampo pleaded not guilty and is expected to return to court for a preliminary hearing on Dec. 24.

On Dec. 10, the boy was on a field trip and standing outside the Walt Disney Concert Hall when Ocampo allegedly assaulted him.

Deputy District Attorney June Chung with the Family Violence Division is prosecuting the case.

If convicted as charged, Ocampo faces a possible maximum sentence of seven years in state prison.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
