Jesse Figueroa faces a maximum sentence of life in state prison; arraignment is set for today in Inglewood Courthouse Department 5

INGLEWOOD, CA — Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman announced murder and attempted murder charges today against a 40-year-old campus security guard for shooting and killing a college dean and injuring another employee at Spartan College of Aeronautics and Technology in Inglewood on May 2.

“Any student, faculty member or employee should feel safe and secure going to school,” said District Attorney Hochman. “This horrific act of gun violence has shaken Spartan College and our entire community. We will file all appropriate gun enhancements in this case and send a clear message to criminals that violence will not be tolerated in Los Angeles County.”

Jesse Figueroa (dob 4/17/85) is charged in case 25IWCF00350 with one felony count of murder; one felony count of attempted murder; one felony count of possession of firearm with prior violent convictions; and one felony count of possession of firearm by a felon with prior convictions.It is further alleged that he used a handgun to cause great bodily injury or death in the commission of the offenses. The gun sentencing enhancements carry an additional penalty of 25 years to life in state prison for each offense.

Arraignment is set for today in Inglewood Courthouse Department 5. The People are recommending no bail.

If convicted as charged, Figueroa faces a maximum sentence of life in state prison.

The case is being prosecuted by the Inglewood Area Office and wasinvestigated by the Inglewood Police Department.

The charges filed in this case are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
