A 43-year-old Hacienda Heights man accused of killing his mother appeared in court this afternoon, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Manuel Garcia said the arraignment hearing for Clifton Huang (dob 9/8/69) was delayed to Sept. 24 in Department F of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Pomona Branch.

Huang is charged in case KA103010 with one count of murder in the Aug. 29, killing of Vilma Chau, 63. The victim’s body was discovered by concerned family members who went to her home after she failed to show up at a gathering. Chau was found in the trunk of her Mercedes-Benz bound and tied, prosecutors said.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Huang’s bail was set at $1.050 million. If convicted as charged, the defendant faces a maximum prison term of 50 years to life in state prison.
