A 30-year-old man was sentenced today to five years in state prison for grabbing a woman who was walking in Pasadena and attempting to put her inside his pickup truck, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Melanie Drew said Jose Gabriel Diaz Servellon of Pasadena pleaded no contest on Sept. 20 to one count of kidnapping.

On July 29, 2017, the 19-year-old victim was walking near Maple Street and Fair Oaks Avenue when the defendant pulled over in front of her and waited for her to pass him by, the prosecutor said. When the woman passed by, Diaz Servellon grabbed the woman and dragged her on the ground toward his truck while threatening her life, the prosecutor added.

The defendant released the woman and fled the scene when a good Samaritan driving by saw what was happening and pulled over, the prosecutor said.

Case GA101634 was investigated by the Pasadena Police Department.
