A man has been charged with stabbing his 13-month-old daughter to death at their North Hollywood apartment and then setting the room on fire, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.

Noe Torres (dob 1/5/68) faces one count each of murder, assault on a child causing death and arson of an inhabited structure or property.

Torres is scheduled to be arraigned today in Department 100 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Van Nuys Branch. Case LA084593 was filed for warrant on Oct. 25.

Torres is accused of stabbing Rosario T. with a knife during an argument with the girl’s mother at their apartment in the 13000 block of Vanowen St. on Oct. 21, prosecutors said. The defendant allegedly set fire to the second-story apartment, stabbed himself and jumped out of a window while partly engulfed in flames, prosecutors added.

The case is assigned to Deputy District Attorney Elizabeth Karb.

If convicted as charged, Torres faces a possible maximum sentence of 34 years to life in state prison. Bail is set at more than $2 million.

The Los Angeles Police Department, Juvenile Division, is leading the case investigation.
