An NFL player pleaded guilty today to an assault on his sister’s boyfriend in Old Town Pasadena, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Christopher Stogel said Sean Lee Smith, 30, entered the plea to one felony count of assault by means of force likely to produce great bodily injury and admitted inflicting great bodily injury upon the victim.

Smith was immediately sentenced to one year in jail and five years of formal probation and was remanded into custody.

On July 4, 2017, Smith assaulted and then stomped on the victim’s head near the corner of Arroyo Parkway and Colorado Boulevard, the prosecutor said. The victim, the longtime boyfriend of Smith’s sister, was attempting to intervene in a dispute between the defendant and his sister, the prosecutor added.

The case was investigated by the Pasadena Police Department.
