May 7, 2020: Monterey Park Man Charged with Killing Mother

A Monterey Park man was charged today with fatally stabbing his 65-year-old mother earlier this week, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Melanie Buccat said Alexander Joshua Escobar (dob 12/20/85) of Monterey Park faces one count of murder with an allegation of using a knife.

Arraignment is scheduled tomorrow in Department 5 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Alhambra Branch.

On May 5, Escobar stabbed the victim, Josephine R., at the house they shared, the prosecutor said.

Bail is set at more than $2 million. If convicted as charged, the defendant faces a possible maximum sentence of 26 years to life in state prison.

Case GA107810 remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
