A 32-year-old man has been sentenced for throwing rocks at vehicles, attempting to steal a bus and injuring a bystander who tried to stop him earlier this year in Mid-City, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.

Emmanuel Moncada of Los Angeles was sentenced to four years and two months in state prison yesterday after pleading no contest to one felony count each of attempted carjacking, throwing an object at a vehicle with intent to do great bodily injury and assault by means of force likely to cause great bodily injury.

Under the terms of a negotiated plea agreement before Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Enrique Monguia, the defendant will be required to pay restitution to at least a dozen victims identified in the case.

Deputy District Attorney Christine Yi prosecuted case BA478038.

On May 21, Moncada was on Venice Boulevard near Fairfax Avenue in Los Angeles when he began throwing large rocks at passing cars and breaking their windows, including the windshield of a Metro bus, the prosecutor said.

He then entered the bus and attempted to drive it away. When a bystander tried to intervene, Moncada hit the man in the head with a rock.

A group of bystanders removed Moncada from the bus and detained him until police officers arrived.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department, Wilshire Division.
