A Canyon Country man pleaded no contest today to a charge of meeting a 15-year-old girl to have sex after luring her through a social media app, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Nathan Bartos said Michael Anthony Byrne, 23, entered the plea to one felony count of meeting a minor for lewd purposes in case PA082513.

Byrne will face a sentence of five years of formal probation and lifetime sex offender registration on May 7 in Department E of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, San Fernando Branch.

In August 2014, Byrne met the victim through an app that allows anonymous social media interactions, the prosecutor said. The defendant pretended to be a girl on the app and then told the victim she should meet a “friend” who also was the defendant, the prosecutor added.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sherriff’s Department, Santa Clarita Station.
