A man was charged today with sexually assaulting a woman on a Metro train in Koreatown earlier this month, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Danon Drake (dob 1/11/91) was charged in case BA425532 with two counts of sexual battery by restraint, and one count each of sexual penetration by foreign object and assault with intent to commit a felony. He’s expected to appear this afternoon for arraignment in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

Deputy District Attorney Gloria Marin of the Sex Crimes Division said a woman and Drake were on a Metro Purple Line train on May 17. As the woman tried to move away from Drake, he approached her, pushed her down and sexually assaulted her, Marin said. When the train came to a stop, the woman was able to kick Drake off her and get away.

Drake turned himself into Inglewood Police Department on Wednesday after his picture, which was captured by a camera on the train, was made public.

If convicted, Drake faces up to 11 years and four months in state prison.

The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Bureau.
