A man was charged today with one count of assault with a semi-automatic firearm during a confrontation last month in a South Los Angeles parking lot, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

The charge against Charles Gerald Tizano (dob 7/24/48) includes an allegation of personally using a firearm, according to the criminal complaint in case BA471878.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 5 in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

On Sept. 6, Tizano allegedly got into a dispute with the driver of a vehicle that was blocking the exit of a parking lot at West Adams Boulevard and South Broadway, prosecutors said. When a bystander attempted to intervene, Tizano is accused of pointing a loaded semi-automatic handgun at the person.

Tizano, a retired Los Angeles Police Department detective, faces a possible maximum sentence of 19 years in state prison if convicted as charged. Prosecutors are requesting bail be set at $125,000.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.
