September 2, 2015: Man Charged with Aiming Laser Pointer at LASD Helicopter

A man faces a felony charge today for allegedly pointing a laser at a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department chopper flying over Agoura Hills, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Rachel Bowers said Christopher Robert Cooper (dob 4/20/84) of Lake Elsinore faces one count of discharge of laser at aircraft. Case LA081568 was filed on Aug. 25.

Arraignment for Cooper is scheduled today in Department 100 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Van Nuys Branch.

The defendant is accused of aiming a laser pointer at the helicopter hovering above a home on Francisca Way on Aug. 11, prosecutor said.

Bail has been set at $110,000.

If convicted as charged, Cooper faces a possible maximum sentence of 10 years in state prison.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Lost Hills Station.
