A 57-year-old man accused of assaulting his son has pleaded no contest, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.

Salim Michael Khoury, of Long Beach, pleaded no contest Wednesday to one felony count of child abuse. The defendant was immediately sentenced by Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Jessie I. Rodriguez to five years of formal probation.

Under the terms of the negotiated plea agreement, Khoury also is required to attend parenting and anger management classes for one year and perform 120 days of Caltrans service.

Furthermore, the defendant must stay away from the victim for 10 years. Visitation contact will be allowed only if ordered by family court.

Prosecutors said Khoury beat up his 15-year-old son after a family disagreement on Feb. 10. The defendant was arrested after the altercation and bonded out on $100,000 bail.

The case was investigated by the Long Beach Police Department.
