A Lancaster man accused of killing his 73-year-old mother is scheduled to be arraigned today, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Shelton Eugene Bradley, 47 (dob 6/12/66), is expected to appear this morning for arraignment in Department 1 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Antelope Valley Branch.

Bradley is charged in case MA061632 with one count of murder and one count of elder or dependent adult abuse resulting in death. Bradley was scheduled to be arraigned on Dec. 23 when the case was filed, but the hearing was postponed until today.

The charging document includes six prior convictions for grand theft, unlawful driving or taking of a vehicle, robbery and three drug-related offenses between 1992 and 2009.

Deputy District Attorney Theodore Swanson said Bradley was arrested on Dec. 20, a day after his brother called police alleging that he found his mother, Rosie Manuel, unresponsive at her Lancaster home. The defendant’s brother said he found the victim on her side with her upper torso on an open oven door, with the oven tipped slightly over on top of her, Swanson added.

If convicted as charged, Bradley faces a maximum sentence of 31 years to life in state prison.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is investigating the case.
