A man suspected of kidnapping a teenage girl before being arrested then later fleeing custody has been charged and is awaiting arraignment, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.

Freddy Bailon (dob 5/2/80) is scheduled to be arraigned sometime today in Department 30 at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center in case BA450607. Prosecutors will ask that bail be set at $450,000.

Deputy District Attorney Kenneth Chiu with the Sex Crimes Division is prosecuting the case.

Bailon was recaptured Wednesday night after escaping police custody while at a USC medical facility. He was initially arrested earlier in the day after police responded to calls for help and saw a man holding a knife to a 15-year-old girl’s throat in an apartment doorway.

Bailon is charged with 10 felony counts, including kidnapping, making criminal threats, forcible rape and lewd act on a child.

If convicted, Bailon faces more than 30 years in state prison.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.
