A jury found a 22-year-old man guilty today of the second-degree murder of a victim whose body was found stuffed in a large suitcase inside a Hollywood dumpster, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Deputy District Attorney Radhika Patel said Merdan Haydarov (dob 3/8/94) was found guilty of murder with the allegation that he used an edged weapon as a deadly weapon in case BA418786.

Sentencing is scheduled for Feb. 16 in Department 108 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. The defendant faces 16 years to life in state prison.

According to trial testimony, Haydarov went to the victim’s Koreatown apartment on Nov. 23, 2013, to borrow money. The defendant killed Randall Kreeger, 49, by cutting his neck with an unknown sharp-edged object after the victim allegedly made a romantic advance, according to the evidence presented at the 11-day-long trial.

Haydarov was arrested the next day after police caught him driving the victim’s vehicle.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department, West Bureau.
