A 41-year-old man accused of assaulting a man with a knife pleaded not guilty yesterday, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Isaias Casillas (dob 8/11/73) of Los Angeles was charged with a felony count of assault with a deadly weapon in case GA095334. His bail was set at $110,000.

The charging document alleges that Casillas was previously convicted of grand theft in 1996, possession of methamphetamine in 2000 and vehicular manslaughter in 2004.

Prosecutors said in the afternoon of Dec. 4 Casillas went to the victim’s home in Alhambra and the two men had a fight. Casillas allegedly stabbed and punched the victim. Following the dispute, the defendant left the scene.

Soon after the altercation, police were notified about the assault and they apprehended Casillas the next day.

Casillas is scheduled to return to court on Jan. 5 for a preliminary hearing setting at the Los Angeles County Superior Court in Alhambra in Department 5.

If convicted as charged, the defendant faces a maximum sentence of 16 years in state prison.

The case is being investigated by the Alhambra Police Department.
