Jossimar Cabrera Cornejo then fled to Peru with their children

LANCASTER, CA – A murder felony complaint for extradition arrest warrant has been filed against a 36-year-old man who allegedly fled to Peru after killing his wife last week.

“The allegations against this man are horrific, and we will do everything possible to bring him back under our jurisdiction to be held accountable,” said District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman. “Domestic violence creates chaos in our communities and shatters families. My office is committed to bringing stability back into the lives of those who have been victimized.”

Jossimar Cabrera Cornejo (dob 9/26/88) was charged yesterday in case 25AVCF01441 with one count of murder with allegations of using a knife as a deadly weapon.

A court date will be scheduled later if the defendant is apprehended.

Sheylla Lisbet Cabrera, 33, was allegedly killed by the defendant on Aug. 10 at the Lancaster apartment where they and their three children lived. It is alleged that Jossimar Cabrera Cornejo then took his children and fled to Perú.

If convicted as charged, he faces a possible maximum sentence of 26 years to life in state prison.

The case is being prosecuted by Deputy District Attorneys Diane Hong and Tyler Zaremba. It remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

The charges filed in this case are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
