Former Torrance Police Chief John Neu was sworn into office as the chief of the office’s Bureau of Investigation during a ceremony on Nov. 16.

District Attorney Jackie Lacey administered the oath of office to Chief Neu and Deputy Chief Kris Carter at the Kenneth Hahn Hall of Administration.

The Bureau of Investigation is the county’s fourth largest law enforcement agency with nearly 300 sworn officers.

The District Attorney praised Neu’s experience. “Police chiefs throughout this county respect his judgment and are influenced by his voice.”

Neu’s law enforcement career began with the Pasadena Police Department. He transferred to the Torrance Police Department in 1985 and was appointed chief in 2006, where he served until he retired in 2014.

Prior to joining LADA, Neu served as the interim chief for the Redondo Beach Police Department.

Carter joined the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department in 1989. She started with the District Attorney’s Office five years later and served in several assignments. She was promoted to lieutenant in 2008 and captain in 2013.
