July 25, 2024: District Attorney Gascón Announces Charges Against Men in Murder of Street Vendor in Long Beach

LONG BEACH, CA - Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced today that Rahman Abdallah and Raylon Akers have been charged with allegedly murdering a street corn vendor, Yener Ramirez, in the city of Long Beach on March 20. Another man, James Havlicheck, also was charged with accessory after the fact in the killing of Ramirez.
“We are deeply saddened and outraged by the tragic and senseless murder of Mr. Yener Ramirez, a hardworking street vendor who was violently taken away from us while simply doing his job,” District Attorney Gascón said. “No one should ever fear for their life while trying to make an honest living. Mr. Ramirez’s untimely death is a stark reminder of the violence that can shatter lives and devastate families.
“The suspects’ callous disregard for human life is unacceptable, and we will not tolerate such violence in our community. Our office will work to ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.”
Rahman Snook Abdallah (dob 9/08/2004) is charged in case 24LBCF00896with one count of murder.
Raylon Deshawn Akers (dob 5/11/2001) is charged with one count of murder; and one count of felon in possession of a firearm – prior(s).
James Arthur Havlicheck (dob 8/04/1990) is charged with one count of accessory after the fact.
It is further alleged that Abdallah and Akers used a handgun.
All three defendants are scheduled to be arraigned at a later date. A bail review is scheduled August 6 in Dept. 1 of the Long Beach Courthouse.
On March 20, Abdallah and Akers allegedly fired multiple rounds in the direction where victim was selling corn. The victim was struck by fatal gunfire.
After the shooting, Abdallah and Akers fled to Havlicheck’s residence, where Havlicheck allegedly aided defendants.
All three defendants are being held on no bail.
If convicted as charged, Abdallah and Akers face a maximum sentence of 35 years to life in prison. Havlicheck faces a maximum sentence of six years in prison.
The case is being investigated by the Long Beach Police Department.
