A 44-year-old man has been charged with fatally beating his mother and stepfather with a baseball bat at their Hacienda Heights home earlier this month, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.

“The facts in this case are truly disturbing and we will ensure that there is accountability for these senseless killings,” Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón said. “We ask that if anyone has information that can be helpful to the investigation and prosecution of this case, please contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.”

Nelson Garibay (dob 7/20/1976) was charged with two counts of murder and one count of willful, deliberate and premeditated attempted murder. He is scheduled to be arraigned February 11 in Department F of Los Angeles County Superior Court, Pomona Branch.

Deputy District Attorney Lisa Harris is the prosecutor assigned to case KA126512.

On January 11, Garibay is accused of beating to death his mother, Irma Garibay, 65, and stepfather, Mario Flores-Romero, 73, after yelling was heard in the backyard, where Flores-Romero’s body was found. The mother’s body was discovered in the garage.

The defendant also is accused of beating his 37-year-old brother with a baseball bat. He survived his injuries.

If convicted as charged, Garibay faces a maximum sentence of 57 years to life in state prison.

The case is being investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
