A transient was charged today with raping an unconscious 35-year-old woman who also was living on the streets in Pomona, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Jerome Perrin (dob 12/30/78) was charged in case KA126465 with one count each of kidnapping to commit rape, rape of an unconscious or asleep person, oral copulation of an unconscious or asleep person and sexual penetration of an unconscious or asleep person.

The defendant appeared today for his arraignment, which was continued to February 24 in Department N of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Pomona Branch.

Deputy District Attorney Lisa Harris is the assigned prosecutor.

On January 11, Perrin allegedly found the victim, who appeared to be sick, in a back lot near the 2000 block of South Garey Avenue. The defendant is accused of dragging her to a dark location and sexually assaulting her. He then allegedly covered her with a blanket and left.

The victim later died and her body was discovered the following day.

If convicted as charged, Perrin faces a possible maximum sentence of seven years to life in state prison.

The case is being investigated by the Pomona Police Department.
