January 3, 2025: DA Hochman Announces Charges in Shooting of Two Security Guards at Downtown Los Angeles Target Store
Jabril Andrew Metoyer’s arraignment is set for today in Dept. 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center
LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced today that a 25-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder in the shooting of two security guards at a Target store in downtown LA on Dec. 30.
“This morning, my office filed serious charges against a man accused of attempting to shoplift from a Target store and then escalating his actions to a violent attack that left two security guards injured, one critically, by gunfire,” District Attorney Hochman said. “This kind of brazen thievery and violence is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in Los Angeles County.
“My thoughts are with the injured guards and their families during this difficult time. I want to assure them, and all residents, that we will use every resource available to bring justice to those who commit such heinous acts. If you engage in criminal behavior that endangers lives and disrupts public safety in LA County, you will face swift and decisive consequences.”
Jabril Andrew Metoyer of Los Angeles is charged in case 25CJCF00024 with three counts of attempted murder, four counts of robbery, and one count of attempted robbery. He faces special allegations of personal use of a firearm and personal discharge of a firearm causing great bodily injury.
Metoyer is being held on a bail amount of $4,100,000. His arraignment is scheduled for today in Dept. 30 of the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center. If convicted as charged, he faces life in state prison.
“Today’s announcement is the result of the commitment and coordinated efforts between the LAPD and the District Attorney,” said LAPD Chief of Police, Jim McDonnell. “With the help of the public, in less than 24 hours after the incident, members of the LAPD Central Division and Metropolitan Division SWAT, were able to apprehend the suspect without incident-quickly removing this dangerous individual from our streets.
“I want to express my appreciation to the District Attorney for filing the appropriate charges, quickly and efficiently, to hold this individual accountable for his actions and remove a dangerous person from our community.”
On Dec. 30, at around 8:52 p.m., the defendant is accused of attempting to steal merchandise inside the Target at 735 S. Figueroa St., Los Angeles. When confronted by security, Metoyer is accused of brandishing a gun and shooting.
Three days earlier, on Dec. 27, Metoyer allegedly shot a man who declined to give him money near 7th and Figueroa streets, downtown LA.
The case was investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department.
The charges filed in this case are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
