Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón today administered the oath of office to Robert Arcos, who will serve as chief of the Bureau of Investigation, the fourth largest law enforcement agency in Los Angeles County.

Arcos, who served as an assistant chief of the Los Angeles Police Department, is a respected law enforcement leader with more than 30 years of policing experience.

“Bobby Arcos brings a depth of law enforcement experience and compassion to the District Attorney’s Office,” District Attorney Gascón said. “I am proud that Bobby has agreed to join my executive management team and will help me fulfill my promises to voters that we will protect our community by preventing crime, reducing recidivism and restoring victims. Together, with other members of the team, we will rely on data, science and research to guide this office into the future.”

Most recently, Arcos served as the director of LAPD’s Office of Operations. He joined the department in 1988 and is a reformed-minded leader who has worked tirelessly to address homelessness, substance abuse and mental health issues, and the concerns of immigrant communities. He has created lasting relationships with neighborhood advocates, nonprofit organizations, the business community and civic leaders. He strengthened restorative justice systems and implemented new processes to more effectively use technology and departmental resources.

Arcos will lead the nearly 300 sworn peace officers assigned to the Bureau of Investigation, which supports the investigative work of the office’s approximately 1,000 deputy district attorneys.

In addition to Arcos, District Attorney Gascón’s executive management team currently includes Interim Chief Deputy District Attorney Joseph Iniguez, Chief of Staff Victoria Adams, Chief Administrative Officer Dorinne Jordan, Assistant District Attorney for Line Operations James Garrison, Special Advisors to the District Attorney Diana Teran, Alisa Blair and Alex Bastian; and Community and Government Affairs Liaison Mario Trujillo.

Iniguez serves as second-in-command and assists in directing and managing the daily activities and operations of the office.

Adams directs and plans all operational and strategic aspects of the office and organizes and prioritizes critical issues and information to facilitate decision-making processes by the District Attorney.

Jordan oversees administrative functions, including budget, human resources, systems, property management and employee relations.

Garrison leads the deputy district attorneys and staff assigned to branch and area offices.

There are three Special Advisors to the District Attorney:

• Teran advises the District Attorney on post-conviction review, Brady compliance and justice system integrity;
• Blair advises the District Attorney on juvenile, diversion, collaborative courts and all related matters; and
• Bastian is responsible for providing guidance and direction in the development of internal and external messages and media strategies and handling additional routine and complex responsibilities as delegated by the District Attorney.

Trujillo represents the District Attorney in both routine and complex matters with municipalities and community-based organizations.
