April 10, 2025: Former Torrance Police Department Officers Plead Guilty to Felony Vandalism
Christopher Tomsic and Cody Weldin pleaded guilty to spray painting a victim’s vehicle with a swastika in January 2020
TORRANCE, CA — Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman announced that former Torrance Police Department officers Christopher Tomsic and Cody Weldin pleaded guilty today to felony vandalism for spray painting a victim’s vehicle with a swastika in January 2020.
“Vandalizing property with hateful messages is reprehensible and violates the oath police officers take to uphold the law and protect and serve their communities,” District Attorney Hochman said. “I commend the Torrance Police Department for swiftly taking action against these officers to relieve them of their duties. I also thank Deputy District Attorneys Saeed Teymouri and John Perroni of our office’s Justice System Integrity Division for holding these officers accountable, ensuring they will never again work as police officers in our state.”
“The actions of these former officers were disgraceful and violated the core values of our department,” said Torrance Police Chief Jeremiah Hart. “I thank District Attorney Hochman and his team for their leadership in pursuing justice. We remain fully committed to collaborative reform with the California Department of Justice and will continue working with our local and state partners to restore trust and uphold the highest standards of integrity.”
Christopher Tomsic (dob 4/30/92) and Cody Weldin (dob 11/19/92) pleaded guilty in case BA497887 to one count each of felony vandalism. The defendants were sentenced to two years of formal probation, restitution to the victim, the surrender of their Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification, 100 hours of community service at Our Big Kitchen Los Angeles food bank or similar facility, a tour of the Museum of Tolerance and 15 hours of Anti-Racism coursework.
The next court date is a progress report scheduled for July 10 in Dept. 108 of the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center.
The case was prosecuted by the Office’s Justice System Integrity Division and investigated by the Torrance Police Department.
