April 3, 2025: District Attorney Hochman Announces Attempted Murder, Carjacking Charges Against Driver of Stolen Trucks
Adam Bowen faces 11 felony counts; arraignment expected today
LOS ANGELES – Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman announced that a 40-year-old man has been charged with carjacking a tow truck operator and then attempting to murder the victim by running over him with his own vehicle last week.
Hours later, Bowen allegedly stole a flatbed truck, then led police on a high-speed pursuit, hitting several vehicles, seriously injuring one person, before running a red light and crashing into a parking lot in Long Beach. He was arrested a short time later.
“This was an extremely reckless and brazen act that endangered the lives of other drivers and pedestrians that could have resulted in a far more tragic outcome,” District Attorney Hochman said. “A tow truck driver suffered major injuries as he tried to prevent it from being stolen. The level of callous disregard for public safety is unacceptable and we will vigorously pursue justice for all of the victims in this case.”
Adam James Bowen (DOB 4/10/84) was charged yesterday in case 25CJCF01745 with 11 felony counts: one count each of attempted murder and carjacking; four counts of assault with a deadly weapon; two counts of hit and run resulting in serious injury; and one count each of fleeing a pursuing police officer’s vehicle, resisting arrest and grand theft of an automobile. Arraignment is scheduled today in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.
If convicted as charged, Bowen faces a possible maximum sentence of life in state prison.
The case is being investigated by the Los Angeles Police Department.
The charges filed in this case are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
