Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced today that his office has filed rape charges against a man accused of sexually assaulting a woman walking her dogs in Torrance.

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced today that his office sought the resentencing of Miguel Vargas who was ordered to spend 39 years in state prison after one officer alleged that Vargas assaulted him with a firearm and proceeded to shoot him in response. Vargas suffered multiple gunshot wounds. The officer was unharmed. The officer was later charged with perjury and falsifying a police report in a separate case.

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced today that a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge sentenced 70-year-old Jeffrey Cooper (dob 8/25/51), a long-time member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, to eight years in state prison. Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender.
