March 13, 2025: Owners of S&W Atlas Iron and Metal Corp. Jailed Without Bail in 25-Count Indictment Over Watts Explosion

LOS ANGELES — Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan J. Hochman announced today that Gary Weisenberg and Matthew Weisenberg, owners of S&W Atlas Iron and Metal Corp., have been remanded into county jail without bail until their upcoming bail hearing on March 17. The two face a 25-count indictment, including charges stemming from the devastating August 12, 2024, explosion at their Watts scrap metal facility, located next to Jordan High School.

Hochman today announced that Ishmail Bangura, 33, has been charged with assaulting a 63-year-old woman during a first-degree residential burglary with the intent to commit rape and attacking a young child in the West Los Angeles neighborhood of Sawtelle on Feb. 27.

Hochman today announced that one current and one former employee of the California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) Athletics Department have been charged with stealing approximately $36,560 from the university through fraudulent time sheets certifying hundreds of hours of nonexistent work between January and December 2022.
