Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón today announced that a man has been convicted of murder in the 2019 stabbing death of a 58-year-old woman he briefly dated. He also was found guilty in the killing of her dog and for setting fire to her Pomona apartment.

“The murder of an innocent victim is a senseless tragedy. It leads to heartache and lasting pain for the victims’ friends, family and community.” District Attorney Gascón said. “The defendant’s actions in this case were brutal and depraved. I thank the prosecution team whose hard work led to justice being served. I also thank the jurors for holding this individual responsible for these terrible crimes. My office does not turn a blind eye to community violence, and we are committed to holding accountable anyone who takes the life of an innocent victim.”

Chaumon Wayan Tyner (dob 3/2/69) of Inglewood was convicted in case KA120629 of one count each of first-degree murder with the use of scissors as the murder weapon, cruelty to an animal and arson of an inhabited structure.

Victim Ronnie Sue Wall was killed on March 16, 2019. Her body was discovered two days later with her slain Yorkshire terrier, Bentley.

Sentencing is set for Oct. 27 in Department P of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Pomona Branch.

Tyner allegedly ransacked Ms. Wall’s residence after the killing and started a fire before fleeing the scene with her car. The apartment’s sprinkler system extinguished the fire.

The case was investigated by the Pomona Police Department.
