August 31, 2020: Man Charged with Possessing Assault Weapon

A Gardena man was charged today with having an assault weapon in downtown Los Angeles, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Gregory Wong (dob 9/14/88) faces one felony count of possession of an ARP5 assault weapon in case BA489657.

Arraignment is scheduled on Sept. 2 in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

At approximately 1:30 a.m. on June 2, Wong was allegedly observed near 1st and Main streets, where protesters had gathered, carrying the rifle and a handgun, prosecutors said.

If convicted as charged, the defendant faces a possible maximum sentence of three years in jail.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department, Central Division.
