Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced that his office today charged David Marvin Blake with murdering a 33-year-old man following a dispute at a home in Downey last week.

“Senseless gun violence continues to plague our communities and it needs to stop before more lives are unnecessarily taken from us,” District Attorney Gascón said. “Those who commit these types of crimes will be held accountable by my office.”

Blake (dob 12/5/94) was charged in case VA158399 with one count of murder. He also faces an allegation of personal use of a firearm.

He is expected to be arraigned today in Department 6 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Downey Branch.

On May 25, a fight broke out between a man and the victim, Julio Cardoza, in the 13200 block of Carfax Avenue in Downey. Blake, who was in a car nearby, allegedly shot and killed Cardoza and drove away.

He was arrested the following day.

The case remains under investigation by the Downey Police Department.
