July 28, 2021: Man Charged with Fatal Shooting of Eagle Rock Store Employee

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced that a man was charged today with fatally shooting a store employee that tried to stop him from shoplifting.
“Violent crime rattles our neighborhoods and creates fear among the people who live in them,” said District Attorney Gascón. “Our thoughts go out to the victim’s family over such a tragic and needless loss of life.”
Anthony Lemus (dob 11/8/00) of Glassell Park faces one count each of murder and second-degree robbery
Arraignment for case BA497319 was scheduled today but continued to Aug. 26 in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.
Lemus is charged with killing Miguel Penaloza, 36, at a store in Eagle Rock on July 15.
The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.
