June 21, 2021: Man Charged with Breaking into Bel-Air Home, Killing Pet Birds

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón has announced that a man was charged today with breaking into a home and killing two pet birds.

“Pets are part of our extended family and the loss of a pet, let alone two, can be devastating.” District Attorney Gascón said.

Paul Kiyan (dob 8/31/86), from the Los Angeles area, faces four felony counts: one count each of first-degree residential burglary with a person present and vandalism as well as two counts of cruelty to an animal.

Arraignment for case SA104739 is scheduled this afternoon in Department W30 of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Airport Branch.

Kiyan is charged with gaining entry into a home in Casiano Road in Bel-Air, and killing the two parakeets, on June 17.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department, West Los Angeles Division.
