September 24, 2020: LAPD Officer Charged With On-Duty Theft at Illegal Marijuana Grow House

A Los Angeles police officer has been charged with stealing money from an employee’s personal property while inside an illegal marijuana grow facility earlier this year, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced today.

Luis Alfredo Mota (dob 10/23/73) was charged in case BA490166 with one felony count of second-degree burglary and one misdemeanor count of petty theft.

The case was filed for warrant on September 22. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Jan. 25, 2021, in Department 30 of the Foltz Criminal Justice Center.

Deputy District Attorney Deann Rivard of the Justice System Integrity Division is prosecuting the case.

On Jan. 27, 2020, the defendant is accused of stealing money from an employee’s backpack while he was on duty and was helping serve a search warrant at a warehouse in downtown Los Angeles. He was arrested a short time later.

If convicted as charged, the defendant faces a possible maximum sentence of three years in county jail.

The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.
