Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced today that Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Jim Devoe has been charged with one count of felony child abuse in case BA515236.

The charges stem from allegations that Devoe physically assaulted his young son while the boy was in his care. Devoe is accused of slapping and punching his son in the face, causing visible injuries, and then lying to the boy’s mother about the cause of the injuries. Following the alleged incident, the victim was examined by medical professionals who documented extensive injuries, including facial swelling and bruising, an eye hemorrhage, bilateral ear, neck, and facial petechiae, and red markings on his head and arms.

“These injuries serve as a stark reminder of the harm that can be inflicted upon small vulnerable children and the importance of holding those who commit such abuse accountable for their actions," District Attorney George Gascón said. “My office is committed to protecting our children by holding accountable anyone who abuses them."

Devoe, (dob 11/15/94), was arrested on May 1, 2023, and charged with one count of felony child abuse PC 273A(A).

He is scheduled to be arraigned on June 1 in Department 30 of the Clara Shortridge Foltz Criminal Justice Center. Devoe was served with a Criminal Protective Order in court today, which prohibits him from having any contact with the alleged victim.
