Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced today that a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge sentenced 70-year-old Jeffrey Cooper (dob 8/25/51), a long-time member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, to eight years in state prison. Additionally, he was ordered to register as a sex offender.

Between 2005 and 2007, the defendant sexually assaulted a girl, who was between 12 and 13 years old at the time and was at his home. She later reported the incident to authorities.

In May, a jury found Cooper guilty of three felony counts of lewd act upon a child.

“Children are the most vulnerable members of our community. Mr. Cooper abused his position of trust and caused incredible harm to helpless victims,” District Attorney Gascón said. “I know that nothing can undo the trauma that they have endured, but I hope the victims find peace and healing now that this criminal process is complete.”

Case BA464633 was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Special Victims Bureau.
