Yusef Dewees is charged with allegedly murdering his infant child in Palmdale; Dewees to be extradited to Los Angeles County from Utah

PALMDALE, CA- Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón announced today that a father has been charged with murdering his infant child in Palmdale in May.

“We offer our deepest condolences to the family of this innocent child and extend our support in the face of such senseless violence,” District Attorney Gascón said. “Child abuse has no place in our society and such acts of violence are beyond the pale. Children are some of the most vulnerable in our society, and every child is entitled to safety and protection as a human right. We are committed to vigorously seeking justice for the victim and their loved ones.”

Yusef Dewees (dob 1/24/2000) is charged in case 24AVCF00834 with one count of murder, one count of assault on a child causing death, and one count of child abuse under circumstances or conditions likely to cause great bodily injury or death.

Dewees is currently in custody in Ogden, Utah. A court date in Los Angeles County has not been scheduled.

The Los Angeles County Antelope Valley Court issued an extradition arrest warrant on June 5, 2024.

On or between May 2 to May 3, Dewees allegedly murdered his child, Baki, in Palmdale. The child was less than a year old.

The infant’s body has not been recovered.

There is no set date for the defendant to be extradited to Los Angeles County.

The People are recommending bail be set at $2,000,000.00.

If convicted as charged, the maximum sentence is life in state prison.

The case is being investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
