A former Los Angeles Police Department officer was sentenced today to 40 years to life in state prison for killing a 23-year-old man in downtown Pomona five years ago, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Henry Solis (dob 7/29/87) was found guilty last month of one count of second-degree murder. The special allegation that Solis personally used a firearm was found true.

Deputy District Attorneys Martha Carrillo and Deann Rivard of the Justice System Integrity Division prosecuted the case.

On March 13, 2015, Salome Rodriguez walked past Solis as he stood outside a bar in Pomona. The defendant pursued the victim and fatally shot him.

Solis fled to Mexico and was arrested two months later.

Case BA434593 was investigated by the Pomona Police Department.
